Like some other Jamberry lovers, I did not have a perfect experience when first applying wraps. There was a learning curve, but I pressed onward, knowing it would be worth it. NOW I have lots of tips and tricks that gives me a flawless Jamicure every time, and I want to share those with you! My "extra" notes are in purple italics.
First, I wash my hands with blue Dawn dish soap; it is known to help dry out the oils at your cuticles.
The spoon pusher has become my best friend when preparing to apply Jams. What is a spoon pusher? It is a silver implement that has a rounded (spoon) edge on one end for pushing back the invisible cuticle and another end for cleaning underneath nails. I bought mine at Ulta for about $12, but have since seen them less expensively elsewhere. Here are the listings from Amazon to get an idea of their cost.
For me and my cuticles, this tool is a must. A regular cuticle pusher just does not seem to touch the pesky "invisible cuticle" that would cause problems with my Jamicure.
2. Match nail (finger or toe) to the nail wrap that best fits.
It is better to err on the side of a too-small wrap than a too-large wrap. In other words, don't fear "the gap" that seems to be at the edges of your nails. What you see is completely different than what everyone else sees!
Also, if you need to trim the wrap to fit, do so before warming it. For example, my thumbnail bed is square, not rounded like the Jamberry edges. No big deal... I just cut a sliver off the end to square it off. I have to cut a sliver off one edge for my middle finger also.
3. Peel off nail wrap and warm the adhesive side with a mini-heater or blow-dryer for 3-5 seconds or until soft and flexible.
Do not touch any portion of the wrap with your fingers. The oils from your finger can damage the adhesive.
4. When warm, press the wrap onto the nail. Apply firm pressure around edges to adhere the wrap to the nail. Use a rubber cuticle pusher to seal the wrap around the base of the cuticle.
Make sure that NONE of the wrap touches skin or cuticle - that WILL cause your wrap to lift!
5. Trim the top with scissors and file off remaining wrap using a downward motion to remove excess.
"Downward motion" means filing at a 90 degree angle (see below). Aggressive filing is not necessary.
6. Apply heat and pressure to the wrap again until it is bonded with the nail.
